A little Spring cleaning - UPDATED
Spring is in the air and we have the brooms out at Bonanza HQ. And, as is typical in Seattle this time of year, the umbrellas.
We’ve been on a bug bash this week cleaning things up and chasing down the hard to reproduce issues. A special thanks to those of you who have helped us by providing detailed feedback as well as your browser versions.
When we ask for your browser it’s not because we want to blame your browser, it’s to help us recreate the bugs on our screens. This is the first step in fixing a bug and it’s a crucial component. Regrettably, different browsers behave quite differently and this includes not only the browser type (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc), but also the specific version numbers. Internet Explorer 7 is very different from version 9 for instance. As you can imagine this creates lots of different scenarios and is, generally speaking, a pain in the, well, you know.
Anyway, back to our bugs. Here’s a quick snapshot on some recently addressed bugs and tweaks over the past few days.
- Restored the more visible quantity field in the new item form (NIF). Thanks to those of you who let us know the new location was too hard to find. You were right. We changed it back.
- Auto-linked URLs in forum posts.
- Fixed cropper not zooming out on select crops.
- Fixed packing slips printing as two pages.
- Improved the clarity of the call-to-action (i.e. the most important next step) on newly created booths
- Fixed empty international shipping destinations being saved.
- Added ability to specify return policy from a list (either in booth advanced options, or on the new item form) so the return policy can show on item detail page.
- Fixed error on Rush page preventing users from voting up items.
- Fixed hand-picked lists not being published in rare cases.
- Persisted selected tags on item detail pages so you can see which tags are already applied.
- Fix slowdown on item page for old versions of Internet Explorer.
UPDATE - the team is on a roll. Here are a few more changes.
- Fix search in Rushes - this one will take a bit of time as we need to let our search tool re-index (crawl) the site.
- Make the new editor in the new item form no longer experimental.
- Fix UPS shipping estimates not calculating in the new item form when reloaded.
- Make it more obvious when an item is added to a wishlist from an item detail page.
This is just a handful and we’re still on the hunt. Have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend everyone!
The Bonanza Team

Wow, you’ve certainly been busy. If I may, I’d like to add an item to your to-do list. In a rush, search doesn’t work. If I enter anything in the search box, it comes up with no matches. Yet, if I take the time to scroll through thousands of items, I will find something that matches my search.
Alex and All of Support Team, Thank you for addressing these issues, and updating us on the status of them. Wishing you all a safe and Happy Memorial Weekend
@abbysattic – thanks for the tip. I have that logged and we’ll get on it.
Thanks for tackling the “honey-do” list
Being a programmer for over 30 years (old school) i can tell every one out there, that for every action there an another re-action. No system is perfect, no matter the time and money spent. So thanks thanks for your efforts, your long hours and the gray hair..
Sorry about the double post!
Appreciate all your hard work on the extermination project…I know some get frustrated, but us “old, experienced” Bonanza peeps know that you are not out playing golf…thanks!
Regression testing sure sucks, but’cha gotta do it. Thanks.
Appreciate the time you are taking to address these issues. Thank you!
Do you do housecalls? Thanks!
Thanks for letting us know what’s going on
I was reading the list and got more and more excited…Hooray! Thanks for the diligence in getting these items fixed, you have some very happy campers this week! :-)
Did you get all the dust bunnies?
Thank you! Appreciate the bug zappers.
May I make a suggestion to make your job easier Alex? In my booth I have just the tool for you…
I could not use the editor last night which was very frustrating. Today I enabled the “experimental features” and successfuly updated a listing.
Thanks for squashing the bugs!
I’m not having any problems listing items.
Love seeing the quantity without having to click a link on the editor!
I have been waiting to do anymore listings. Just finished one and I have a comment. The font size maximizes at 14 pt. Is it possible to offer larger sizes as 14 pt will still be difficult for many of our buyers to read. On the old editor, I always used a size 3 Georgia Font. This is quite a bit larger than the one now offered. Hopefully it can be added as an option. Thanks~
Thank you so much! You all are great!
@momspennies – I imagine we can do that. Let me get that on the short-list.
@emmesattic – I’ll bmail to see if I can help.
Thank you for all that you do!!
I hate to even ask this lol..would someone take a look at the FedEx calculator? Being as we have to have a shipping price in order to be picked up by GPS this is critical at least for me. Anything oversized is calculating abt 20.00 over the price given on the actual FedEx site..so obviously this is not attracting customers Free shipping or guesstimating on oversize items is not possible for me. What may cost 10.00 to send to Ohio may cost 60.00 to send to Seattle so no way to split the difference
or..if you cannot fix it..google will accept a shipping table. I have absolutely no idea what that is or how to construct it
Any help would be greatly appreciated Mary
@sofyblu2 – I’ll ask Bill, but I suspect this is simply the data the shipping provider supplies us. So we’re at their mercy. I will inquire though!
Alex any idea why the instant messenger isn’t working today?
Thanks for addressing all these bugs!
Wonderful to see those bugs getting squashed and the posts working as usual, and better!
I did find one small thing this morning. I had 150 items in my booth but sold one yesterday. In my booth it says >Showing 48 of 149 total productsCurrently for sale: 150 items<
Pretty minor but perhaps they can fix this too!
Appreciate all the efforts.
@AntiquesRGreat – Quick Texts? Those are working for me. Maybe you mean something else. I’ll bmail you. ; )
I would like to see the MAKE AN OFFER on the item page and not in the shopping cart. It is too confusing to make an offer from a shopping cart. It is not evident any place that you can only make an offer from the shopping cart. From a buyer’s point of view (as I am a buyer too), why would I want to put an item in my cart if I only want to make an offer? This just doesn’t make sense to me as a buyer or as a seller.
Great work guys!
Alex…I wanted to mention this here also:
The clickable links still are not working in bmail where as before they were just like on the forums….Very often, I refer my buyers to links within my booth.
They aren’t working in bmails yet. They’re still dead. Thanks~
@momspennies – logged in our bug tracker. I’ll see what I can do about getting that fixed. Thanks!
You guyz be busy as bees…..
I like the Return Policy Feature…..
Thank you for working on resolving those glitches. Things are improving.
Hell of a classy bug graphic, alexwberg. (Says the guy with TWO bananas & assorted other fruit for his avatar)
Thank you-Such busy bees! Wait, are bees bugs?
Many thanks for taking such good care of us
Thanks Alex and everyone for keeping us informed and for DE-BUGGING Yall Have a Wonderful Relaxing Holiday Weekend
Alex, I just wanted to mention that the issue with line breaks still is not fixed.
Need to take a look at the shipping charges not calculating correctly….or can’t change them to be correct in approving order process. AND when I add an addt’l line to the order, hit recalculate it shows me the correct total. then when I send it to the buyer it now adds 2 lines with that addition. I have sent emails to support on this…awaiting response so won’t go into anymore detail here. Also posted in the sellers discussion forum in more detail. Very frustrating and customers don’t like being overcharged even if they do get a refund back for it. Just the point of the whole thing.
