Forum Experience Bonanza Style

About a month ago, we reached out to you and asked you how you would like to improve the forum experience on Bonanza.  We had our ideas on how this could happen but it would be silly if we did not tap into our awesome community to see what you thought.  Thanks to you, we received a ton of great feedback to get us to where we are at today.  We are happy to announce that our new Community pages are ready to be launched and will be live the next time we deploy (aka, upload all of the things we have been working on).  With so many great suggestions, it was hard to narrow it down.  For example a few suggestions that nearly made it into production:

Please create a laser where you can zap posts, you know, like a video game.  -Luke Slywalker

Please add a Netflix plug in to the forums so I can live on the Bonanza forums.  -Betty JWhite (the J is silent)

Please add Amazon Coins so people can reward posters with Amazon Coins  -Jeff Blezos

Unfortunately those suggestions may have to wait until the next go around.  In the meantime, feast your eyes below on the new design that will be live in the next few days. We have added a feed where users will be able to see feature announcements.  That will improve communication of new features on the site and give you an area where you can also share feedback.  These changes aim to continue the positive and upbeat introduction to Bonanza for new users, provide a place to swap tips on how to maximize selling effectiveness, provide a free opportunity to promote your booth and a location to keep users up-to-date on what's new on Bonanza.  If you spot anything funky, make sure to let us know at [email protected] or just click on the "Contact" link at the bottom of any page to report to support.

Looking good!

ButterMeUp says: 05/20/13 at 03:53:13

Does that mean no seller discussion or personal note forum? As a seller the seller discussion is very important.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/20/13 at 09:11:51

Sellers should be able to post in the “Community Help” forum for assistance.

The new forum changes sound pretty good

Mostlymysteries says: 05/20/13 at 05:16:50

Looks good. Can’t wait to try it out.

ooooooo I like it! Thank so much! You guys Rock the Planet!

FlyingMonkeyFinds says: 05/20/13 at 07:09:21

Looks good from what I can see. Was wondering if there will be a part of the forum which only sellers can access so that we can get help from each other, but not having info we share with each other open to the buyers?

bonanzamark says in response: 05/20/13 at 09:13:35

Sellers can use the “Community Help” forum for assistance. Truth be told, traditional buyers (excluding sellers who are buyers) rarely venture into the forums . It that changes we will definitely address it.

Please bring back the search option:search by distance -on left menu. I don’t want to go through a lot of convoluted ‘search by people’, etc to see what is in their store. If I search for an item, I want to narrow it down by distance in one keystroke. Please bring this feature back. I thought it worked great when it was offered.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/20/13 at 09:16:20

We have removed this feature because it was not delivering consistent results. So in short it was not creating a good experience for buyers because the results were so sparse. In any case, your suggestion is noted and perhaps it will be reconsidered in the future.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the forums; it’s appreciated.

I look forward to seeing the new setup.

I think forums are a great way for both newbies and old-timers to share / help each other in the workings of the site.

Hard to tell from the description and screenshot, but will the current forms (General, About, Technology, Personal Note, etc.) survive under the same names, and will all the topics and posts on the current implementation be migrated to the new one? Visually, the new design looks good, to me.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/20/13 at 09:18:26

RIP General, About, Technology, Personal Note, Drama, etc. What you see on the community main page are the forums that we will have. All others will be retired with our new community pages.

BeewitchingItems says: 05/20/13 at 09:29:00

Interesting!

lowerwholesale says: 05/20/13 at 09:32:02

Looks great! Will sellers be able to post to the “promotions and deals” section … in other words, promote their booth in any way?

bonanzamark says in response: 05/20/13 at 09:45:45

The promote your booth area will remain as it is today, with one minor change. Only the original poster can post to their promote your booth forum thread, other sellers are not allowed to bump or post to another sellers promotion thread.

MyTexasTreasures says: 05/20/13 at 09:43:40

The round table will be retired, and or merged into Community help?
I like the new design, way less clutter, & more visual.
The other new page designs are looking good as well. Picture tweets up and running which is wonderful.
As soon as one other issue is resolved, I will be happy.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/20/13 at 10:46:41

The functionality of the Roundtable will be passed to the “Community Help” pages but the Roundtable will be retired.

BookbinEtc says: 05/20/13 at 10:00:42

I like that change – only the OP posting to their own thread. It saves the continual bumping of the same threads, and hopefully, means more exposure for everyone who chooses to post.

I’m guessing that the typical topics posted to General, Personal, etc., can/will be put in the Fun & Games section.

I REALLY like the separation of Community Help from Personal type stuff. It will make it easier to users to find help in one spot, rather than checking General, About, Tech, Seller, Sales Boosting, all for the same topic.

rapidreader says: 05/20/13 at 13:02:07

What about the Items Wanted forum?

It was helpful to find items as a buyer, and also as a seller it called out for things that hadn’t been listed yet but were practically a guaranteed sale!

As for the new layout, looks very good.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/20/13 at 13:32:29

Glad you like the new layout. Hard to measure the effectiveness of the items wanted forum but we will certainly look at that if it becomes a noticeable loss.

nightrunway says: 05/20/13 at 18:57:48

Looks good, very professional and less like facebook

xxPhyndz says: 05/20/13 at 18:58:32

Love the ones that “nearly made it into production”.
And so glad you are keeping “Fun & Games”!

BookbinEtc says: 05/20/13 at 19:57:30

I like the Roundtable being included in the Community Help section, as well. It is another example of all the seller help requests being in one place.

I think the Items Wanted forum may be useful. I have seen at least a few posters who regularly use it for lists of items they want or need.

jsgeare says: 05/21/13 at 11:51:33

Will the content of the old style forum continue to be available on the new community pages. Or are we starting with a totally clean slate?

bonanzamark says in response: 05/21/13 at 12:15:17

It will be available temporarily (for a week or so). We are going to temporarily link it from the new community page. The old URL’s will work too during that time (ie. http://www.bonanza.com/forums/12)

NewandDejaVu says: 05/21/13 at 11:53:21

Where can I find the topics and posts from the seller’s discussion forum?

bonanzamark says in response: 05/21/13 at 12:17:20

http://www.bonanza.com/forums/9

thevintageflea says: 05/21/13 at 11:59:02

You are saying that the discussions about such things as attributes (which is constantly changing) and the only time I got any information was by visiting seller discussion, is going to be included in “Community Help”.

Maybe I missed it, but I d not see any of these discussions being carried over in this new format.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/21/13 at 12:18:46

Older topics will not carry over to the new forums. We are keeping the old version open for a week or two so make sure to get what you need and feel free to post such information in the appropriate area of our new community pages.

kenoticket says: 05/21/13 at 12:05:10

Is there still an option to block particular forums. The only one that I see that I would consider glancing at would be the Community Help section.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/21/13 at 12:19:45

Sounds like something that we may address in the near future along with other feedback.
