You can also scan thru Gotheberg for your symbols and they could be there. It’s a huge web site and free, but I have found many of the ones I have been looking for there. www.gotheborg.com Good luck to you and yes, what is this piece as we can only see the bottom. LOL

Several years ago, I purchased a ceramic rooster at an estate sale. It was quite old and I was told it was crafted by a master artisan in the Jingdezhen Provence of China during the early Qing Dynasty .As there were characters on the bottom of the piece, I was interested in date verification. Houston has a very diverse Asian population and a China Town, I took the piece to many Chinese restaurants,to a Chinese School, Chinese Shops and no one could read the characters. I found that there are many written and spoken Chinese languages, including Shanghanises, Taiwanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and that some the characters in many of the ancient Chinese language are also used in Japanese. Bottom line was that I could not find anyone that could read the characters nor discern exactly what language it was. I do known that for modern Chinese characters there are many websites that provide translators from Chinese to English. Google ’translate Chinese to English". You have to draw the characters with the tools provided and they will be translated for you. Also if you show the top of your piece and what it is crafted from, it may help in identification. Is it Brass? is it an ashtray? Good Luck!

Hello. I can tell you that you have it upside down and that those are standard Characters. I do not read Chinese but my son does but he is overseas now.

We have Chinese sellers on Bonanza and I am sure if you asked one of them they would translate it for you.

Keep me posted as I can ask my son too.

[URL removed] It could just be the name of the company that made it too!
