You can pay monthly, but you don’t get the discount that way. I’ve had both Silver and Goldmemberships and paid monthly because it was more convenient for me that way. You only get a discount if you pay one time/year.

If you haven’t already Tortuga, you can try out the free month they usually give. i just got an offer for it, so i may give it a shot for a month and see what happens.
