the basic webstore setting wants me to import a favicon….don’t have one. is it necessary? where or how to do i get this?

A favicon is a very small customized icon – can be a version of a company or web site’s logo or any image or graphic You like (e.g. see above on Your screen the Bonanza favicon, this tiny white “b” letter on a green background or.. the red one below, which I’ve just made as an [URL removed]

It is displayed next to the web site’s name in the ‘Favorites’ list and can also be displayed in the ‘Links’ toolbar.

No, it’s not, but it really looks nice and, if I may, I would suggest to add [URL removed]
Also, when it’s added, there is no need to write something extra, even no name to the saved page, as it can be recognized due to this icon.
If You don’t add a favicon, Microsoft will just load the IE logo (or a white page) into the browser by default.
Create an image (16X16 pixels in size) and put it in your root directory and the web browsers that support favicons will locate it.

If you save bookmarks onto your browser bookmarks bar, look at it. You’ll see all of these icons that represent websites. Most of them you would recognize without seeing the name. If you had a favicon for your webstore, and you saved the link onto your bookmarks bar, you’d see your favicon there.
As ArtistsUnion said, “If You don’t add a favicon, Microsoft will just load the IE logo (or a white page) into the browser by default.” I use Firefox, and for the websites that don’t have favicons, FF shows a gray and white earth icon.
So it does help you to stand out and be memorable for those who load and save links to your shop/website.
