The solitary figure on the rim did not glance toward the glory that lay at his feet. His eyes were fixed upon the eastern horizon, staring across the wilderness of cleft rocks, beyond cliff faces as sheer as though sliced with a gigantic knife, to where five widely separated mountain peaks bit like wedges into the blue sky.
