The binding is in acceptable condition, the pages are clean but tanning except for some notations on the rear end paper. The cover is edge worn, has some small dings and the spine is discolored. Good. Hardcover.
Chapter 1: The man pushed through the fringe of twisted juniper and cedar and stood at the rim of the plateau. At his feet the earth ended, dropping away almost sheerly for a thousand feet along the face of a seamed cliff of black lava, then falling for three thousand more in a less abrupt slope to a wide valley, eroded from sandstone that was as crimson as new spilled blood under the rising sun. The solitary figure on the rim did not glance toward the glory that lay at his feet. His eyes were fixed upon the eastern horizon, staring across the wilderness of cleft rocks, beyond cliff faces as sheer as though sliced with a gigantic knife, to where five widely separated mountain peaks bit like wedges into the blue sky.
