The "slim as a pencil", curved yellow pods are 6" long, stringless and tender. Unlike green beans, these black-seeded yellow wax snap beans are easy to see among the foliage. Grow in the ground or in containers. Disease resistant.We find that pencil pod beans have a finer texture and more buttery flavor than green beans. The round pods are good for fresh eating--exceptional at the pencil-thin stage. Pods can be left to mature and the black beans stored for use as a dry bean. Heirloom from the 1900s the Pencil Pod is nicely rounded, slim, and elongated. It is a heavy producer which yields over a long period. The flavor is sweet and juicy. PLANTING Phaseolus vulgaris Germination: 4-10 days Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-85ºF Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep Outside Sowing: After the last frost with soil temperatures above 60ºF.
