Item description
Rare Heirloom Organic Sharlyn Melon Seeds (Aka Pineapple Melon, Ananas Melon, Ananas D'Amerique a Chair Verte)(10)
This melon. Is utterly luscious. We had heard about Sharlyn for years and indeed, she's an early melon for short seasons that ripens to a white flesh that melts in your mouth with exquisite pineapple sweetness. And here's the thing: A week before her flesh is white she's tinged tangerine in the center and lime on margin with a bright, tropical honeydew flavor, firm yet tender and delightfully juicy. What does this mean? The optimal window to harvest this melon is over one week! This is almost unheard of. One of the most challenging aspects of growing melons is simply knowing when to harvest them (can I hear an amen?!) and Sharlyn makes it easy. As soon as her green netted rind begins to blush gold, she is dreamily delectable. This specialty melon is a favorite of growers up and down the west coast of Americaโand for good reason! A honeydew and cantaloupe flavor combination, Sharlyn melon actually changes flavors as it ripens! In the young stage, its green flesh is similar to honeydew. But after a week of ripening off the vine, intense tropical flavors condense making you feel like you are in a tropical paradise when you eat this melon! Hints of coconut, pineapple, and floral aromas make the Sharlyn melon stand out from the rest. Fruits are 4-8 pounds, oblong, and orange with netting. It is an heirloom variety of muskmelon that is sometimes referred to as Pineapple melon, Israeli or Middle Eastern melon, Ananas melon and in France as Ananas D'Amerique a Chair Verte.
