Item description
ROSE'S LAST SUMMER
By Margaret [Ellis] Millar.
New York: Random House, (1952).
First edition, first printing; Swanson Agency copy.
"First printing" statement to the copyright page, and $2.50 to the jacket's flap.
Swanson's agency copy with early Sunset Blvd, Hollywood address and early phone place number "CRestview 1-5115" rubber-stamped to the front end-paper, upper margin of the preliminary explanatory page, and to the dedication page, with Swanson's scotch-tape line remnant to the inner flap edges, and to the corresponding front inside cover.
The LA Times 1965 Woman Of The Year, and Edgar and MWA Grand Master Award winning mystery author and screenwriter was a pioneer in her writing of mature, well-developed women characters with rich psychological detail.
In this mystery, much-married, one-time silent film star Rose French is found dead in a deserted garden, of natural causes says the coroner, but social worker Frank Clyde has his doubts and becomes a detective in spite of himself.
Reissued as THE LIVELY CORPSE.
A well-preserved first edition, agency copy mystery in dust jacket.
Single narrow line of agency tape to the inside front cover, else very tight, firm and very nearly fine in smoke-grey linen boards with black embossed mystery house insignia to the front cover, bright gilt embossed titles and decorative rules to a bold black panel to the spine, upper page edges a lovely slate-grey; in an about near fine dust jacket with rose art by Irving Miller, with a touch of age-toning to the spine panel, a hint of rubbing to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips; original printed $2.50 price still intact to the front inner flap, both inner flaps show an agency copy narrow clear tape line at their fore-edge.
The dust jacket will be placed in a clear protective, removable sleeve after scanning for this entry.
