Item description
The item in these images is a vintage Fostoria Coin glass compote or candy dish in a distinctive ice blue color. This piece was made by the Fostoria Glass Company of Moundsville, West Virginia, a prominent American glassware manufacturer. The compote features a round bowl with a scalloped or crimped rim, set upon a hexagonal pedestal base. The main characteristic is the series of frosted, raised medallions, often referred to as "coins," that encircle the bowl. Unlike earlier U.S. Coin patterns, these were not copies of actual currency but stylized designs. One prominent design featured on the coins is an American eagle and the torch of liberty, often with the date "1887" which marks the year Fostoria was founded. Original Fostoria coins are noted for their sharp details and smooth, even frosting.. The "Coin" pattern (line #1372) was produced from 1958 until 1982.
