Quite a RARE Edgar Award first edition, and a prestigious accomplishment for a woman in that time period. Considered to be set in the author's home town of St. Paul, this well-plotted whodunit deals with the suspected murder of a generally un-liked, tough and strict housekeeper and former nanny, who 'fell' down the cellar stairs. Small tape shadows to the upper edges and black tape stains to the lower edges of the end-sheets, mild tape shadows to the upper and lower edges of the covers, else about very good in black linen with lime-green titles and cellar stairs image to the front cover and with lime-green titles to the spine; in a very good dust jacket with some minute shelf-edge nicks, minor soiling to the rear panel, nicks and a few very short tears to the upper and lower spine edges, and three tiny pin-holes to the lower rear spine fold; the front inner flap shows a small amber tape shadow to its upper and lower corners.
