Black and white frontispiece and illustrations
The hinges are weakening, otherwise the binding is in good condition. The pages are clean but lightly tanned and have some mild foxing and a few pages are corner creased. The cover is chipped and rubbed and there are initials in marker on the back. There is a small loss on the front hinge. Good. Hardcover.
Preface: The author of this series has made his special object to confine himself very strictly, even in the most minute details which he records, to historic truth. The narratives are not tales founded upon history, but history itself, without any embellishment or any deviations from the strict truth, so far as it can now be discovered by an attentive examination of the annals written at the time when the events themselves occurred.
