More details about this item

The War of The Worlds H.G. Wells New York: Harper and Brothers, 1898 First U. S. edition, published by Harper and Brothers, New Your in 1898. Original green cloth stamped in black and gold. Slight darkening to the spine, light soiling to boards. Light corner wear to volume, a little light edge wear along the front out joint gutter where spine meets the front cover. The inner hinges are unbroken, no writing inside this book, but for the Ray Bradbury signature (see below and the photo). The book is solid and square and with a clean interior. The 15 inserted plates by Warwick Goble, and frontis plate illustrated by Cosmo Row are present in this book. On page 291, the last page in the book, there is a "crinkling" on page 291 at the upper left corner. The verso has cello-tape. I took photos of this. Please see the last two photos. The only ads are on the verso of the title page, in a box device above the copyright date: "Thirty Strange Stories" and "The Invisible Man." There are no ad pages in the rear of the book Additionally, this book is signed by Ray Bradbury. H. G. Wells was a huge influence on Ray Bradbury's writing and a huge influence on him as a young man. I presented this book to him at his home for the signature on the front free end paper. He was the closest author to H. G. Wells alive. This may be the only first edition of this book that he ever signed. Thank you for looking, John Anthony Miller Phantom Bookshop Ventura, CA
