Amazon fees reach 50%

Amazon fees reach 50%

For small businesses, it's getting harder and harder to be profitable on Amazon because merchants are spending more and more money on fees. To help cut costs, many sellers choose to diversify their listing platforms and post products on alternative marketplaces - such as Bonanza - where the fees are still low.

According to Marketplace Pulse, Amazon has been charging sellers more per transaction for six years in a row. Bloomberg reports that Amazon's average cut of each sale surpassed 50% for the first time in 2022. The research firm calculated the total cost of selling on Amazon by adding the selling fees, warehouse storage, packing, delivery and the advertising necessary on a site where hundreds of millions of products jostle for attention.

On our smaller marketplace, sellers do not have the same competition and, while we won't replace Amazon, we can certainly supplement your profits with our lower fees. (Fun fact: Bonanza hasn't increased selling fee percentages since 2016!)

Risk-free selling at Bonanza

We've recently made several improvements to our free Amazon Importer so you can easily and accurately copy your items over to your Bonanza booth. Your Amazon listings will then synchronize with Bonanza for smooth and simple inventory management.

Another plus: There's no need to pay up-front for the optional advertising most merchants consider a necessary part of doing business on Amazon. Unless you've opted out, Bonanza pays up-front for all advertising and includes every eligible item in your booth. We also offer optional advertising boosts such as TurboTraffic if you want to maximize traffic.

Customer Service

Bonanza was built with simplicity in mind, and many folks never have a reason to contact our support team. If questions do arise, we are ready with answers. Our team can help with booth set-up, importing/syncing, shipping, editing listings, and much more. There is a specialist ready to help you set up a custom Webstore with your own domain name, and another to help you ensure all your listings are approved by Google Shopping for optimal advertising.

Getting started is easy

Already sell online? Opening your Bonanza booth is a breeze with our inventory importer tools.
Bring all your items over from eBay, Amazon, or Etsy with just a few clicks.

I really wish Bonanza would advertise. The name recognition is zero on the seller websites I frequent.

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/23/23 at 09:00:34

Hi bonflash,
Thanks for your comment. We are working on name recognition and agree on the importance. We always appreciate when our sellers mention Bonanza on other seller websites, so thanks for joining us in our efforts to get the word out. Until then, sending all our sellers’ listings to Google Shopping (where there is name recognition) brings buyers to Bonanza. Once here, we provide sellers with marketing tools that make it easier to get repeat business.

Amazon is terrible for small businesses. please check my booth for the lowest prices on vitamins/supplements and all your nutritional needs.

Thanks for your comment, NutrimentBoutique. Congrats on the success you’ve had selling with us on Bonanza! I was just looking at your booth the other day and noticed all the repeat buyers you get. Good job!

kejaba says: 02/23/23 at 07:36:58

This is why I sell on Bonanza.

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/23/23 at 09:10:25

Hi kejaba, we’re happy to have you selling with us. You’ve done a great job with your listings and 100% of them are approved and being advertised at Google Shopping.

Yoursecondshop says: 02/23/23 at 07:44:10

A bit misleading – Amazon sellers choose to pay 50% because they end up with sales… Here at Bonanza you have an option of 19% for advertising just for some ads on Bing – just to get a fraction of sales you’d get with your advertising on Amazon…

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/23/23 at 09:26:26

Hi Yoursecondshop! Sorry for any confusion, I included links to both Bloomberg, who wrote the original article, and Marketplace Pulse who detailed how the stats were computed.
We do have several levels of advertising as you noted, providing options for all types of merchants. Plus, we pay for all the advertising upfront. If you don’t make a sale, you do not pay the fee. Our no-risk system makes Bonanza an easy choice for diversifying. Thanks for selling with us!

100% on the money!

Thanks, Tom! We appreciate your business and your excellent work in providing answers to other sellers’ questions on the community forum.

True Bonanza is better as far as fees but comparing Bonanza to Amazon is unrealistic. Although Amazon cost more in fees sellers still get more sales then they do on Bonanza. Bonanza even after all these years is still unknown and any sales we get we bring in on our own through social media. So although i love Bonanza and do not use Amazon there is just no comparison as far as sales. But I stay here cause I do like Bonanza and keep hoping it will grow and outshine ebay etsy and amazon.

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/23/23 at 09:42:10

Hi Elizavella! Sorry for any misunderstanding. Bonanza won’t be replacing Amazon, but it is excellent as a companion marketplace with the importer doing a lot of the work with setup. You’ve definitely got a great business plan using your own social media! We’re glad to have you here at Bonanza.

Bukibit says: 02/23/23 at 08:52:58

i like Bonanza

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/23/23 at 09:46:45

Hi Bukibit! Looks like you’re fairly new to Bonanza but are off to a good start. With your quick responses to buyer questions and fast shipping, we think you’ll do well. Thanks for joining our remarkable selling community here at Bonanza!

BookbinEtc says: 02/23/23 at 09:04:16

Wow! 50% – that is crazy!

I really appreciate Bonanza’s low fees, and am just getting going again, slowly, after the pandemic shutdown.

Thanks, Shelly

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/23/23 at 12:10:57

Thanks, Brenda! Glad to hear you’re getting going again. Happy Bonanzling!

I think you should consider creating a hand made category all by itself. I had two shops on Etsy for many years. My sales were phenominal. Right now I consider the economy is a huge factor in peoples’ decline of sales, including mine. I made a living on Etsy, but they were a horrible company to deal with and have the worst customer service of any platform I know. I am not even scraping by at the moment. I have been talking up Bonanza to other dissatified Etsy sellers I know. But very few have heard of Bonanza and are afraid to make the leap. Etsy is still the leader in handmade and digital goods. I want to support other Bonanza sellers, but I keep finding myself going to Etsy to make purchases. Bonanza really needs more sellers unique with handmade items.

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/24/23 at 08:35:21

Hi KrisGoesPicken! Thanks for the feedback, you’ve got some great actionable ideas! We would love to see more handmade goods from Etsy. Sellers can keep their listings on Etsy if they’d like, and add Bonanza as an additional marketplace. We have an importer that works well. Thanks for your support! We appreciate having you as a part of our Bonanza community.

SpaceAgeAntiques says: 02/23/23 at 11:07:07

I’m a big fan of Bonanza. I think you have to put in the work, like trying to list daily, but I do get sales on here. Good luck with your sales everybody!

Thanks so much for Bonanza. I sell some, not a lot but I do sell. I love this as a hobby and making some extra money…and all with having a selling platform I like and no up front fees and low fees after I have a sale.

I noticed on my stats page that my last 3 sales were directly from within Bonanza…and it was not any sellers that bought from me…very happy about this.

Thanks to Bill AND Mark even though Mark is not here.

BonanzaShelly says in response: 02/24/23 at 10:25:20

Hi Sharon! Glad to hear about your sales from a search within Bonanza, that’s great news and a major goal we’ve set. Thanks for your feedback, Bill says hi! We’ve enjoyed working with you since 2009. Take care!

bharding says in response: 02/25/23 at 10:01:24

Aw shucks, thank you Sharon! Not many can say that they’ve been around since the early early days, but we treasure the people who have stuck with us through all these years! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

The rivers fees are a non event for me as this household will not use them for selling or buying. They are non-existent in my world.

Bonanza is an good platform !

Americasprice says: 02/25/23 at 09:06:42

The thing that I do like about Bonanaza besides the fact that they don’t nickel and dime us to death is the fact that Bonanaza respects sellers’ business policies. Unlike eBay that takes it upon themselves to accept returns without even letting us make the decision. ebay is not what is used to be and I’m sure someone else will take over ebay’s spot. Hopefully, Bonanaza fills that slot.

onemanstreasure16 says: 02/26/23 at 03:49:14

We quit selling on Amazon years ago. It’s not worth the time and effort. It may be a good site for large businesses to use, but not for the casual seller.
