PHOTOS ADDED JUNE 3 What are good resources for learning about vitamin tins circa 1950-1960?

I’m researching an “One-A-Day” tin that was originally sold containing 30 vitamin A/D tablets.

I’ve located medicine tins for sale on an assortment of sites but not a site that provides information for collectors.

The tin will most likely be posted for sale. Prior to posting, I’d like to obtain some background information as well as an approximate market value.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the pictures!

What you have there is a miles laboratory one a day pill box. I would guestimate the date at or around the early 1940s. This particular one a day was released in 1940, but miles changed the packaging with an advertisement campaign in the early 40s…(1943 maybe? i dunno for sure) This company is known for inventing alka-seltzer. They were in business until the late 70s when they were bought by Bayer.

With collectibles like this, you would want something tied to a product people know well, and you are in the grey middle area. If you had a box for one of Dr. Miles other snake oil type tonics, or one for alka seltzer, you would have an easier time selling it. As it is, it is in good condition, with very little rust or damage, it is easy to read which is to your credit.

I would price this piece between 10 and 15 dollars, but defer to Anyone more knowledgeable about this subject than myself.

Thank you for sharing it with us!

Yours can easily sell anywhere between $50.oo-$75.oo to the right medical collector (especially physicians) because yours has the Good Housekeeping Seal oval in “black print with the red star” instead of the blue oval with red star. The blue was redesigned in 1959.

  • Can you find a buyer-collector willing to pay $75.oo and up? Yes! But with patience and alot of promoting various ways (twitter-facebook-bonz-etc)…
  • To whom? To doctors belonging to an organization called “Doctors Without Borders” seek these specific items (especially the doctors in France).

Brief [URL removed] Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

  • Time for you to do some “international” research; however, here’s wishing you " G00D LUCK " for a head start!
