Metal press die? what is this and what is it worth

This thing is Heavy, and the image is reversed, so i am assuming it is for stampig, or impressing a seal. I do not know what it is exactly, how to sell it, or what to sell it for..it was just too cool, so i picked it up.

Please someone tell me exactly what this is, and what it is worth!

Edit it is about 2.5 inches across, about 2 inches tall, is flat on the bottom, so nothing attaches to it, and it weighs a bit over 2 lbs.

My first impression was that it is
a die for making the top half of
uniform buttons which are two pieces?

That’s the logo for the US Marine Corps on it.
I’d guess it’s for making a wax seal.

How large is it? Is there a place to attach a handle on the bottom end?

Is it under 1" in diameter? I wonder if it could be a seal that is pressed into wax to make a document or letter official.

Yup, size would help, John.
