What are these clips for? MYSTERY SOLVED

Anyone know what these clips would be for? A neighbor asked me to sell his mother’s collection of costume jewelry and they were with it. I’ve never seen any like them and haven’t a clue what they are to be used for/with. They are listed at my booth, just click new when you get there and you can see them in other lighting and from the side/back.
Thanks!

Thank you Sensual Pleasures for bmailing me that your mother bought them for you when you were a girl and that they are especially good with fine hair. I have seen many hair clips and have fine hair myself but never came across these anywhere.

They are considered an aligator hair clip. I have a huge container of them :)

I actually have some clips just like this (but with different decorations) and this is the first time I’ve seen others. Do yours also have the tiny teeth? I can’t swear to it because I really don’t know for sure, but I was thinking Hair Clips (as uncomfortable as they look).

Actually, I think that is exactly what they are. After a quick but conclusive search I found many that were all classified as hair ‘clips’ hair ‘clamps’ and hair ‘claws’. Some were new and many were older vintage like yours and mine, but they all had the ‘clamp’ style clips.

Hope this helps.

That’s okay, I’m just telling you what lots of people have them listed as. So, they’re curved, with little teeth and decorative just like mine.

Scarf Clips?

[URL removed] So, they’re hair clips then? Imagine that.

Do you think maybe they once had a chain and were sweater clips?

I remember my Mom having them…you threw the sweater over your shoulders instead of putting your arms through and the chain kept it on…

Got here too late to mention that my grandmother has the same type (in different colors) that she’s had for many years worn during the summertime because of her fine hair.

Thanks Pacifica, I thought of that but as tight as they clamp, they would break your hair!!!! I considered the curve to them too when thinking about hair….

Thanks Lynne’s but they have a curve, and can’t figure why a dress or sweater would need/want a curve.

Thanks, Nancy. No evidence of a chain between them, and I know what you are talking about as my grandmother used them. She always had a sweater on. The spring in them is REALLY STRONG too.

Usually when I see two clips such as these with tight clamp and small teeth I think of them as collar or dress clips. Made to dress up a blouse or sweater or dress. Can’t see them super clearly but these look Art Deco or maybe a little later. Are they rhinestones? Any marks?

Just my opinion of course.

If they are made to worn in the hair maybe to keep one of those little caps on?

If they have serious teeth then I agree with [URL removed] they are sweater clips.

If the teeth are fine, or there aren’t any, they are hair clips.
