Dating a Hutschenreuther mark - still need help

Can anyone help me date this Hutschenreuther mark?

It is green under glaze. I have not been able to find one with the two dots next to the Germany, and the dots are important in distinguishing a dating.

Without the dots, one source said 1960s, but if it’s made before the fall of the Berlin Wall, shouldn’t it be marked West Germany?

I need your opinions, please, and if possible, an answer and reference source. Many thanks, all.

Good start Lynne. LOL. I didn’t see what you wrote elsewhere, but I gather you believe Germany, in this case, refers to East Germany. You could well be right. If the vase was made in Selb (which is not the mark), then East Germany would certainly be correct during that time period. I do not know how many other of their factories were in East Germany at the time. There were and are many factories producing Hutschenreuther porcelain.

The dots, they are the dilemma. Do they indicate a different range of age? Do they indicate the factory the item came from? That’s the stuff we’re trying to find. I keep looking, but with no luck.

The first reference you gave shows a dot above Germany and one to the right of Germany.

I have never seen a porcelain company that didn’t have significance to the dots in their marks.

I wonder why we can’t find this one.

[URL removed] 3/20/13: Of course, the lion in green was used for a very long time, not just starting in 1969. The article at wiki says the mark was “continued” to be used. The dots may very well date it earlier.

I’m still sleuthing. How about you?

Thank you, Lynne, for continuing to look for the two dots. See my reply to ccmom below.

Looking for a [URL removed] is not hard if you take the time to search for a good European mail order bride. These women are beautiful and intelligent and speak good English. Most of them are eager to get married and have a family, which means they will make great wives.

Whoops, hope you didn’t see that. I got on a different page and that was explaining a different company. But I still think the “Germany” denotes East Germany.

Continuing to look for references I see your mark is the lion mark with 1814. Being in green ink, this source says it was produced between 1970 to 1985.

And on this reference note the last paragraph of the “Brief History” section

I think this confirms your piece was made after 1969. Still haven’t figured out what the 2 dots mean.

It wasn’t actually the green ink but the 1814 that made me think it was the later date. It seemed all the earlier ones didn’t use 1814 but letters. Maybe I didn’t look at enough examples. I continued looking last night but didn’t really find anything that seemed to help, certainly nothing about the dots.

Thank you, ccmom. The reference above is sound for 1970, but it still does not show the two dots. However, I did follow the link to a site in Germany showing marks, and I have written to them for further information.

I’ll let everyone know if I get a reply.

If anyone learns anything new in the meantime, please let me know. For now, I’m going to assume c.1970 unless I learn otherwise.
