most US commemorative stamps are worth face value

the celebrity ones you can occasionally sell for a bit more

they really wont gain much if you hold on to them either, I know some collectors that will use mint stamps from back to the 50’s on letters cause there is no value over face value

they are just too common, only rare stamps are worth any money and they do not always have to be mint

I have collected stamps for 50 years

rod is a long time collector that is a member, you can ask him also

here ya go, Elvis is worth 29 cents unused, which is face value

on the bright side, you still made a profit and have postage for awhile

We often purchased large lots of stamps with estates………..
You can get face value but dealers only pay about 80% of face…….often ended up using them as postage myself just to get rid of the clutter.
Much of it depends on the stamps as with all things those which are rare command a price but only when there is a buyer competition…Good Luck

As said above, stamps, like dollar bills, are always worth at least face value, it just takes more of them to do what needs to be done, purchased, or mailed.

You got a good deal on them. There may be some small marked up value to a collector of Elvis, or Marilyn, or other celebrity or event, but the philatelic value is most likely just face value on stamps that recent.

I have not collected stamps for a long time now, but to really be of any huge value, the need to be rare, errors, or very, very old.

Your best bet is probably searching up a philatelic – stamp – show or club in your area, and gathering a few opinions on “collectability” and value. Don’t offer to sell to the first buyer. Obviously take no less than face value. There are also a very few coin dealers who also deal in stamps. Congrats on the nice buy either way.

a very good recource for pricing your collection to sell or collect is the Scott Catalog …this reference book is published once a year and you can get any volume at your public library on loan…
