Can i use photos of a company's label in my listing?

I sell pre owned handbags, shoe and accessories.

When I went to what is allowed, I noticed that you cannot use logos from companies.
Does this mean I cannot use photos of tags or labels (usually inside the handbag) identifying the maker of the purse?

Yes, you can take pictures of the tag or label and use in your listing! You cannot use copyrighted logos. (meaning you can’t use the Coach logo or Cole Haan logo, etc). As long as you take the picture of the label, you are fine.

Hi Ageless> seller “fashionrunway” is absolutely correct.

Infact, it is almost recommended to do so because you want your buying viewers to be well-informed providing them proof of “product-tag label” [not the advertising logo but the name label sewn on the item itself] so that they will see exactly what they’ll be buying.

Its always best to provide more than less pic images with potential items.

Odd as it may sound, there is a difference between a “picture” of a logo, and use of the logo itself. For example, if you were to say, “Here is the Coca-Cola truck delivering Coca-Cola,” and then showed a picture of the truck (with the logo painted on it), no problem. In fact, movie studios make a few bucks allowing various brands to appear in their movies – advertising!

On the other hand, if you copy a logo and use it to promote your own stuff, so as to make it appear that you are officially connected with the brand, that’s misappropriation. [URL removed] “Official Coca-Cola sponsor of the West Podunk Little League” (when you are NOT) can present some issues.

In general, the use of logos in advertising is tightly controlled by the holders of the trademark. If you have ever used the logo of a brand you sell, as a dealer for that brand, you will see certain requirements, such as no competing brand on the same page, and at least 1/4" of white space around the logo.

Thus, the answer is not always crystal clear. That said, if you have a Chanel Handbag for sale, and the picture shows the Chanel logo to authenticate the item, there should be no problem. All part of establishing the provenance of the item. But if you then take the Chanel logo and incorporate it into your booth advertising or art, the folks at Chanel might have issues with it.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ageless…I think you’re right…..I guess the only logos allowed are the ones that identify the product brand.

Don’t make it a MChabit…..You know as Americans we advertise Company Logos on everything… tshirt, purses, dolls, toys and that’s called free advertising. To make things even better we collect company logos to help sell their brands…also free advertising. AKA better know as branding.
