Can anyone tell me about this merit watch?

I found this watch in a lot and can not find any information about it online. I took it to a jeweler who verified its gold plated but was not familiar with the brand or its age. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, “some” Merit Watch designs were “wannabe similar” (now vintage 80s/â–¼ see image below) to the “Piaget” watches that hit the market back in late 1970s into mid 1980s. These similiar MERIT Watches sold back then for $24.99 whereas the Piaget (shown here sold in thousand$). Yours is quite a nice looker. Good Luck

I think it’s from the Merit Watch Company in New York maybe 1960’s or 1970’s. I don’t believe they are in business anymore.
