I am wanting to know this also. I am starting to rebuild my shop but would like to know if in fact Bonanza will take care of all the States and requirements. Thank you. Sandy

Any new laws will have to be passed first (except in the state that took it to the Supreme Court – their tax law was upheld) to allow states to collect taxes. Many states may exempt small sellers (like eBay, etsy, Bonanza). It needs to play out before Bonanza MAY have to get involved re-writing code to help sellers collect taxes for multiple state and local governments.

From what I understand, it would be the small sellers (us) who are responsible for our ownselves…not just small sites like Ebay, Etsy and Bonanza

the sites will currently determine taxes for you if you set up taxation rules in your accounts. However, there are too many local government add-ons to the state sales taxes to make this easy. Sellers would then be responsible (unless small sellers get an exemption) to actually forward collected tax

What us Bonanazas involvement in this especially on small sellers?

I actually noticed today that one of my WA orders from Etsy had sales tax added, kinda caught me off guard.

Yes, Etsy is doing this for PA and WA.

What a PITA for small sellers. Trying to keep up with tax rates from 45 states. I guess we could all just add 7 or 8% to every sale and be sure to keep that money in an account just for taxes. Of course since I haven’t made a sale in months, it won’t effect me much. This is about the states wanting to control and profit off the work of the people (again) and will be a fiasco.

And it is not just a matter of 45 states. Within any given state the counties and cities can have different tax rates. For example – in MY county the tax rate is 7.5% but the county above me is 8%. You would have to know the tax rates for each individual county and city. Nowhere have I been able to

continued…. find when this goes into effect. I think the states have to try and figure it out first!

So this new crappy law will cover counties and municipalities too. I haven’t heard or read that anywhere. If so that’s crazy.
