Sha-256 upgrade in paypal?

I just rec’d an email from paypal regarding SHA-256 upgrade. I can’t figure out what, if anything, I need to do in response. Bonanza.com is my only selling venue, and I can’t tell from email & googling question whether this is something I should be trying to change on Bonanza.com or in my Paypal account.
TYIA for any help you can provide.

This is an official Bonanza response.

Hi loneelk,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the confusion. Bonanza and Paypal will handle the cart adjustments so there will not be any action needed by the seller here at Bonanza.

Thank you! I rec’d a reply from “[email protected]” letting me know that the email in question really WAS from the actual paypal. I’d googled the topic before I came here to ask, and couldn’t find anything about it that made sense to my not-so-techie brain.

some sellers have already talked with PayPal and written posts with info.

I got the same email…. I deleted mine. Not sure what it was.

It is a definite scam. Call Paypal direct using the contact number at the bottom of your Paypal page. They were very helpful. You may need to change passwords. I sent them a snapshot of all the fraudulent activity that occurred minutes after opening the email. You didn’t need more than just open the email for it to take over.

Forward the email to [email protected]
I just did

I received the same email.

Paypal never puts a link in an email. Any email that looks like it is from Paypal with a link is a virus or from a hacker. Also the grammar in these fake emails is generally poor.
I deleted mine as well.

I thought it looked “different”, so I didn’t click either link, & instead went to Paypal to see if I had any communications from them—I didn’t, so had pretty much decided that this was some effort at a scam. I’ll change password AND forward the email to the spoof@paypal addy.
Thank you for reinforcing what I suspected.

To Answer Brilliantly

Remember these tips:

  • Use links to other sources to support your opinions
  • Use examples where possible
  • Put yourself in the inquirers shoes: what extra info would be helpful?

Should I post a comment or an answer?

You can only post one answer, so make it count. Maybe your reply is more fitting as a comment instead?

Post an answer for:

  • Replies that directly and specifically answer the original question

Post a comment for:

  • "Thanks," "Me too," "I agree," or "Works for me" types of replies
  • When you would like the original poster to provide more details
  • When you have more to add to someone else's question or answer
