UP FOR SALE: Antique Chinese opera headdress dating to the late Qing dynasty to early Republic period, circa early 20th century. This is a traditional theatrical headpiece constructed from silk and fabric with applied and stitched decorative elements, intended for use in stage performance. The headdress features layered silk panels with stitched edging, floral and auspicious motifs, braided and tasseled attachments, and early bead and cord embellishments. The interior contains a stuffed fabric head form with a hand-drawn face, likely used for shaping or storage between performances. Materials and construction are consistent with early Chinese opera costume work, created for repeated use rather than display. The piece shows handwork throughout, with no signs of modern machine construction. Condition reflects age and theatrical use. There is wear to silk, fraying, losses to decorative elements, fading, loose threads, and overall surface wear consistent with use and age. Structurally intact but fragile.
