Item description
? Manufacturer: Replogle Globes, Inc. (Made in USA).
? Era: Circa 1962?1965 (Pre-Apollo 11).
? Model: 12-inch diameter Lunar Globe.
? Scale: 1 inch = 180 miles.
? Height: Approximately 15 inches tall including the base.
Historical Significance
? Mission Markers: Features early lunar exploration milestones, including Lunik 2 (First unmanned landing, 9/13/59) and Ranger 4 (4/26/62).
? A fascinating look at early lunar mapping. Includes detailed topography of the "Near Side" and the then-mysterious "Far Side" (featuring craters like Korolev and Hertzsprung).
? Pre-Apollo: This globe was produced before the 1969 moon landing, making it a "State of the Art" scientific instrument for the early 1960s.
Design Aesthetics
? The Base: Includes the iconic, original clear Lucite/Acrylic "Star" cradle base. The base is in excellent vintage condition with no yellowing and just 1 minor crack.
? Style: Perfect for Mid-Century Modern (MCM), Eames-era, or Industrial office decor.
? Color Palette: Classic grayscale lunar surface with blue and gold equatorial accents.
Condition Report
? Globe Surface: Good vintage condition. The paper gores are tightly applied. There is minor surface scuffing and light age-related "foxing" (small spots) near the Bailly crater (see photos for detail).
? Structural Integrity: The globe sits securely in the cradle and rotates freely. No major dents or deep scratches.
? Base: Exceptionally clear and sturdy. There is one minor crack on the base that does not affect the structural integrity or appearance of this magnificent piece. Please see photo for detail details.
