Carved Bakelite chess set in cherry red and butterscotch or "creamed corn" yellow. Complete! And nicer than most, in my opinion. Carved from solid pieces of Bakelite, unlike the Lowe sets, with green felt on the bottoms. I have not been able to find any examples identical to it; the knights in particular are distinctive. Pieces range from 3" in height to 1 11/16". The yellow knights have some yellow marbling among the butterscotch, see second to last photo. The red is slightly translucent, and the butterscotch is creamy and opaque. These have the pleasant weight and clack of Bakelite, and pass the rub-and-smell test. I do have Simichrome in the house, but it seems sort of pointless since half of these are yellow. They are in a divided wooden box with a latch. Condition: Both red knights and one yellow one are missing their felts. Both yellow knights have chipped manes, as shown. The yellow queen has a chip on the top ring below her crown, see third from last pic. One of the red knights has a tiny fleabite chip on the tip of an ear, I did not even notice this until I was editing the photos and had them blown up on my monitor; very last pic, it's the one in the middle. The box has some wear in general, and gaps around the bottom at the back corners. And close up, they are grimy - at a distance, it looked like patina, but in retrospect I regret not at least brushing them off. One yellow pawn is different from its peers; it is on the left in group photos and is second from the right in the main photo. It lacks the deep groove around the base, has a smaller head collar, and is 1/8" shorter. Ships in a box via your choice of service, insurance included.
