Bonanza "thumping" a couple of enhancements

In case you were wondering, "thumping" around Bonanza headquarters means that we have uploaded changes to the main site so they are live (or something technical like that).  Thumping can also be the end result for anyone who plays ping pong against Jordo, but that does not stop us from continuing to try!  Anyhow, we (awesome programming team you) just pushed two enhancements live that are going to improve our buyer and seller experience on Bonanza.

The first change will allow buyers to better manage multiple shipping addresses.  Buyers can add or remove shipping addresses via their "Account Settings > Account Info" page.  Buyers will be able to select these addresses when viewing their cart.

We have also improved sellers being able to manage their credit card settings in one convenient place (also on your "Account Settings > Seller Settings" page).  So if you use multiple credit cards (seller fees, membership, verification), you will be able to manage them on one page.

How will customers leaving an alternate address effect:
1. PayPal’s confirmed shipping address
2. will the shipping calculator “know” which address to correctly calculate prices?
thanks

bonanzamark says in response: 04/27/12 at 13:55:34

So long as the buyer has the address that they select at checkout confirmed with PayPal, then the transaction would move forward as it always has. Same can be said if they use an unconfirmed address. The big difference is that a buyer has an active page on Bonanza to manage these addresses.

txskys4ever says: 04/27/12 at 14:09:13

Ditto the questions by Sofyblu2.

I personally do not accept alternate shipping addresses unless/until the Buyer has given me a logical explanation for the alternate. That is, alternate from the address provided by Paypal, etc. If the Buyer has good feedback then I feel better about it, but I still consider it my duty to make sure the alternate address is not someone using the account without permission, and I have to decide if I want to risk breaking Paypal policy.

I am not a big business that accepts credit cards directly. I must deal with policies set by Paypal, Amazon, Google, etc. Alternate shipping addresses could cause problems I would prefer to avoid. Sounds like an option suitable for big box companies, not small sellers like me.

By giving the Buyer options to manage Unconfirmed addresses, seems it suggests that Bonanza as a site that welcomes that. Since we as a site also accept Paypal, seems like a conflict.

I just looked in my Account Settings and found someone else’s name and address as my Alternate Shipping Address. If I click Remove Address, it will remove it from MY account, yes?

bonanzamark says in response: 04/27/12 at 14:37:24

That is most likely an address you have used to ship an item to in the past (or one that you had entered at checkout one time or another). Clicking on “Remove Address” will remove that specific address.

AbbysAttic says: 04/27/12 at 18:48:46

Just looking at the account settings. On the buyer’s page I have two addresses. They’re both me. I live on a court. In one my street ends with Court. In the other it ends with Ct. Doesn’t really matter.

On the seller’s page, please confirm the correct usage of the following:
When I approve an order, send the buyer their invoice automatically (don’t prompt me to review the invoice).

Right now mine isn’t checked, so it would seem that invoices are sent to me first for approval. Does this apply to all orders. I generally only approve invoices for international shipments.

bonanzamark says in response: 04/28/12 at 07:54:29

When you “Accept Order” you will then be given an option to send an invoice. If your invoice settings (See —→My Bonanza > Account Settings>seller settings) are set to automatic then the customer will get an invoice of the transaction you just accepted. If you do not select automatic then you will be taken to an invoice screen where you can amend the invoice (add shipping, etc). Then the buyer will get that amended invoice and be directed to checkout. Here is a link to help you along: Custom invoicing at Bonanza —> http://tinyurl.com/BonanzaCustomInvoicing

@â–º Sofy: If buyer has a Confirmed or Unconfirmed Address with a payment server (like PayPal) and the seller does not ship to the address provided by (PP), seller loses all Seller Protection by 100%. This means that if the buyer does receive the item to their “alternate address” at checkout provided by site and later informs their Payment Server (like PP) that they did not receive the item, then the buyer is automatically refunded by PP within seconds once the notification becomes “escalated” to a claim.

This “thumping enhancement” only works best if:

1) Mail Pay is the option (Checks or Money Order, cash)
2) The seller is willing to risk shipping to the alternate address against Payment Server guidelines

The GOOD THiNG about this enhancement (for Mail Pay) is that the selling site will know if the item was received or not by proof of tracking or signature confirmation and will be able to handle the buyer/ seller account (internally) because this pay option “Protects the Seller” regardless where the item is shipped.

@â–º txskys4ever: Regardless if a buyer stores several alternate mailing addresses for purchase, if the buyer is UNconfirmed and the PP Merchant (seller) has their PP preferences set to “Confirmed Address Only” then the order here will either sit in shopping cart and will not process through. The seller would “have to” UNcheck or Change their Payment Receiving preferences to either: Accept Unconfirms or Ask Me before payment arrives.

The UNconfirmed Address (if payment goes through as your choice) will be good UNLESS the buyer escalates a Not Received (even if proof of shipment is shown to the alternate address).

So in reality, until Payment Server guidelines “change” there will be no Seller Protection if not followed.
Most sellers accept Unconfirmed payments because it accommodates their opportunity of increase sales, etc.
Then there are sellers that sell high-dollar amount items (like $500.oo up into the thousands). Would this kind of high-end seller be protected by online payment servers?
N0, if shipped to an alternate address.
YES, if they kept their Confirmed Address ONLY preferences and shipped only to the required address provided by PP.

Again, this “thumping enhancement” is a good idea but requires more serious thought before process in order to make it a win-win for all.

I look forward to read more of what will be discussed.

►► My Question here is: What happens if your seller does not accept an Unconfirm Payment knowing that the shopping cart at Checkout will not complete once buyer is taken into Payment server (PayPal)? Will the transaction continue to remain “Incomplete” ?

Thank you, Monty

You said: My Question here is: What happens if your seller does not accept an Unconfirm Payment knowing that the shopping cart at Checkout will not complete once buyer is taken into Payment server (PayPal)? Will the transaction continue to remain “Incomplete” ?

Answer: The transaction should still go through as it always has (if the seller does not have specific settings at PP to decline such payments). If the seller has their PP settings to decline unconfirmed payments then the transaction status will update on Bonanza as, “Payment Declined.”

GenericUser says: 04/28/12 at 07:16:52

Oh my Goodness! I have 76 addresses from 4 different locations. Only one is my current location. And not all of the others are correct for previous locations. How were these populated? And can I remove them in bulk to just leave the correct one?

bonanzamark says in response: 04/28/12 at 07:56:35

The addresses showing are populated from your “ship to” history. Simply click on the “remove address” button by each address you wish to have removed. I do not envision that we will have a bulk option to remove these.

sofyblu2 says: 04/28/12 at 08:01:31

On certain listings I will use a different zip code to see what shipping costs show as..bad idea! I have a slew of addresses all with different zip codes! GO CHECK YOUR SETTINGS!

RebelBabe says: 04/28/12 at 08:49:53

I have worked with PayPal and unconfirmed address (shipping to an alternative address) where they provided me assistance and direction. They gave me step by step instructions prior to shipping, told me that provided I followed those I would be covered. Basically I was to email the buyer, confirm the transaction was legit and he wanted the item shipped to an alternate address. He did respond immediately (I sent the email to the PayPal email address provided); the purchase was legit and it was a gift for a friend. That was the reason for the alternate address.

This offered me an opportunity to provide free gift wrap, a card and ‘no packing slip with pricing’!

This buyer was elated! PayPal protected this seller and this buyer through this transaction. You can contact them if you have any questions.

Mostlymysteries says: 04/28/12 at 09:00:13

Shipping to an unconfirmed address could be big trouble if payment is made by paypal. If seller will ship only to a confirmed address the buyer will be angry, not good for seller or for Bananza. If you ship to an address not confirmed by PayPal you can loose your item and the shipping cost, too big a chance to take for me.

PetsMisc says: 04/28/12 at 14:25:51

Thank you, bonanza. I buy online to send as gifts, address not always confirmed.
I want to do the same for my customers. This will make it easier for any holiday shopping.

purpleiris says: 04/28/12 at 15:26:06

Awesome! Thanks so much Bonz Team! So, does this mean I’ll be able to use my credit card to pay for a monthly membership rather than my PayPal account? If so, that would be great!

bonanzamark says in response: 04/30/12 at 15:38:09

We support Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and PayPal. If you signed up via PayPal, then you would need to cancel out your membership first, then sign up for the membership again with the payment method of your choice.

TreasureHaven says: 04/28/12 at 19:34:50

I’m not understanding why we would be given the choice to provide an alternate shipping address. My main reason for thinking this way is because I always use the address provided with the payment method that was used.

I do always check to see that the address the buyer used on Bonanza is the same as what was used on their payment source, and if it is not, I email letting the buyer know I ship to the address that is provided by their payment method to give them a chance to respond and take care of any unforeseen issues with shipping. I’m supposed to ship to the address that is used on their payment source.

Do you think this will confuse buyers into thinking that we will ship to the address that is registered on Bonanza (and that it does not matter what is registered with their payment source)? It seems like this may be opening the door for confusion and possible problems. I’m just trying to understand. Thank you.

bonanzamark says in response: 04/30/12 at 15:39:46

Basically we are giving buyers a way to manage their ship to addresses. With out this feature before, repeat buyers who needed to ship to additional locations did not have an easy way to do this. Now it is easy

TreasureHaven says: 04/28/12 at 21:30:50

I’ve also contacted Paypal in the past and was told that I needed to ship to the address registered with Paypal. As far as shipping to a “confirmed” address it did not matter to Paypal at that time any longer. I need to call them to see if things have changed with this and also on shipping to another address that is not registered with their Paypal account. (I also need to contact Amazon and Google checkout on shipping to another address not registered with their account).

OutdoorMisc says: 04/29/12 at 00:49:54

@Heavenly, this only concerns Your Address, not buyers or customers.
My problem, with multiple booths, someone decided to duplicate passwords for me. Automatic signins like I ALWAYS do suddenly failed. Thanks Bonz!

RM1Gordon says: 04/29/12 at 12:09:36

I had three listed, one with FL one with FLORIDA, AND ONE
Unknown city, 33771
US
deleted number three
I have sent items as gifts to different addresses but asked the buyer to put the address into the comment section of the paypay page so paypal can see the item is going to another address.

ok I may be a lil blonde but my first question to the Boyz is: Why does it have “Verify Ebay ID” in the first picture you show in this Blog entry? You are starting to scare me Mark :/

bonanzamark says in response: 04/30/12 at 22:23:19

When a user imports their feedback or items from eBay we verify that the user ID is truly theirs. Once we verify the ID the first time, we keep a record of the verified ID in case the user wishes to update their feedback or imported items. That way a user does not have to continuously log into their eBay account.

Wow Sensual! You have really good eyes.

The first screen shot does show “Verified eBay ID” next to the very first box.

Why would it say that?

I hope that doesn’t mean Bonanza is tangled up with eBay somehow.

Here it is so you don’t have to scroll back up:

Mark, thanks for replying. This is me, Heavenly also.

This leads me to another question that I am not clear on…The question is does Bonanza set it up so that the alternate address the buyer is wanting to use at checkout still has to match up with what they have on Paypal, GCO and Amazon at that time?

From what I’ve been able to figure out so far (with the help of someone else) is that we are able to add another address to Paypal and GCO. I’m not sure about how Amazon is at this point.

Thanks.

bonanzamark says in response: 04/30/12 at 22:28:27

Checkout will work as it always has, nothing has changed there. When we send the cart contents to the payment option chosen, then the rules for that payment facilitator will come into play (as well as the options the seller has chosen on that account).

yippykiyea says: 04/30/12 at 22:56:25

Wait, this is from the Bonanza importer page.. “To import your feedback from eBay, enter your eBay username and password below. This information will be used only to grab your feedback. After your feedback has been successfully grabbed, we will not store your eBay login info”. So do you keep our Ebay info or not Mark?

https://www.bonanza.com/users/312836/user_feedbacks/import

bonanzamark says in response: 05/01/12 at 08:24:21

That is correct, we do not store your “eBay login info.” Once we have confirmed that your eBay ID truly belongs to you, we do not store the password, only the ID for the purpose of updating your feedback/listings in the future.

momspennies says: 05/01/12 at 01:32:40

If Bonz is going to make this option available, then you should consider giving sellers access to the customers direct email address. Too often, we have issues that need to be resolved before shipping and we can’t reach the buyer for reasons we are all well aware of.

If you are dealing with a payment that came through CBA, you’re stuck, because CBA does not give you the buyers email addy. GCO only provides it part of the time. PayPal always provides it through the transaction page.

I personally don’t have an aversion to shipping items as gifts to customers with addresses different than their own, but it’s really important to know we can easily contact them in case of a problem.

Not only that, but an actual email is written verification that the buyer requested we ship that item to an unconfirmed address in case of a claim or dispute.

Mostlymysteries says: 05/01/12 at 06:36:10

I am really confused. I agree with mompennies that we need to be able to contact the buyers. A phone number would be nice and a real email address.

Are these extra addresses confirmed by PayPal? Is the shipping cost figured at the new address? I had a buyer buy with their address I had to ship to another and the cost was not the same and I could not contact the buyer. I took a chance on that sale and it did work but shipping to an unconfirmed address by Paypal could be trouble if the buyer wanted to take advantage of the Paypal rules.

I cannot afford to refund money for sale and the cost of shipping if the buyer says they did not receive because it was sent to an unconfirmed address.

I think we need to know how we stand on that point. Are we covered if we use the Bonanza address if we take PayPal or do we stand to lose our money and item if the buyer is not honest.

I would appreciate it if you would clear up that point.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/01/12 at 08:26:25

Nothing has changed with how PayPal, Google Checkout, or Checkout by Amazon treat confirmed or unconfirmed addresses. Nothing has changed with how these addresses are used on Bonanza. The only thing that has changed is that we have added a place for buyers to manage these addresses

momspennies says: 05/01/12 at 06:41:52

I don’t understand why Bonanza wants to keep sole possession of buyer email addy’s. Is it a matter of a privacy concern? Fine, if that’s the case, have every seller digitally sign a privacy agreement that they keep these email addy’s private and don’t share them or sell them. After all, these are OUR customers. Not having access to this information has caused most of us to lose countless sales, and if we’re losing sales, so is Bonanza.

bonanzamark says in response: 05/01/12 at 08:34:18

Unless things have changed, you should be able to get an address and email address via the payment method that the buyer has used to complete their purchase.
