Have another question! what is this used for?

It’s me again! lol

I have this awesome item and I don’t know what it’s used for! It’s brass or possibly bronze. It is stamped on the back “Made in Israel” the larger piece is also stamped “The Map of Israel” and is in that shape! As you see, the smaller pieces are removable and one has a lid that opens. My question is..Do you know what it is used for? It’s a interesting piece!

Thanks again for any help!

Rick

I think it is to hold oysters into position. Happy Thanksgiving Rick, Monty

Could it be an incense burner?
The lidded compartment to hold the powder?

Definitely a ‘wow’ piece.
Sorry can’t help … first I thought it’s a kind of an ink well.

I found a patent number on this item, I don’t have the right computer setup to view, but, the number is 703 and is dated by the patent office as..April 21, 1838!!

Maybe someone could find some more info on this item for me!

johngermaine..I did notice that Israel has a patent office too…Rick

Thank you to everyone who responded! I think I’ll just list it as Israel metalware and hope that someone who sees it will tell me what it is for sure…Rick

What size is it? Maybe it is to hold tobacco, and a place to rest the pipe bowls in. [The first thing I thought of, too, was oysters on the half shell.]

Have no idea what this has to do with that…but here is all I could find of Pat No 703 April 21, 1838

yes there is a Patent office in Israel, but Israel (per se) did not exist in 1838…and the information, ie number and date is invalid in their data base

Maybe that is a patent number for Israel? Dunno on this one at all but it’s very fascinating to look at.
