Mexican Sterling Silver Aztec Mayan Mask Brooch Pin Pendant Eagle 28 Vintage Signed Hallmark Taxco Artisan Three Dimensional 3D Hecho en Mexico Figural Warrior Totem Head Headdress Nose Ring Ethnic Central Latin America Primitive Jewelry Sculpture Silversmith Silverwork One-of-a-Kind Handmade Hand Crafted This is a vintage, highly detailed and three dimensional Sterling Silver Aztec or Mayan tribal face mask. It can be worn as a brooch or pin and also has a built in bail to be worn as a pendant. The back of the piece is flat and the face portion curves out in front. There are cut outs for the eyes, nose and the mouth. The warrior is wearing an intricate detailed wire work headdress and has a nose ring. It is stamped on the back “Hecho en Mexico Sterling 925” and has an Eagle Mark with the number 28 inside. The Eagle marking system was used from the 1940s through the late 1970s. According to “The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks” by Billie Hougart there are three attributions to the Eagle 28 mar, one is Bernice Goodspeed and the other two are JFCM and RAF. Bernice Goodspeed was a Taxco Silversmith who liked to design original Aztec and Mayan pieces, so this is most likely her design. It measures approximately 1 inches wide and 1 1/8 inches tall. It weighs .20 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 5.67 grams. It is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It has a roll-over clasp on the back. The pin is intentionally bent at the end, so that it would not stick out and prick you when being worn as a pendant. It works just fine and closes securely (see close up photos of the pin). I have not polished it as many people prefer the patina that comes with age. I will leave any polishing up to you. Please look at all the photos as they show the details better than I can describe and are considered part of the description. This would be a nice addition to anyone’s collection of vintage Mexican or Figural jewelry. It will look great on a sweater or blouse with your favorite pair of jeans for that casual chic look or with that little black dress for a fancy evening out. It is a wearable piece of artwork that is sure to bring compliments. This will be sent 1st Class Mail with Tracking/Delivery Confirmation and Insurance.
