This appears to be high quality heavy gauge stainless steel 1/2" pipe with a trim ring. It has a brushed nickle finish. It has tapered threads on each end though and the end that goes into the wall has deeper threads for a sturdy connection. I chose this for a 10" rain shower head with an 8' ceiling. The total length of the pipe is 17.25" so it should net 16" I didn't take into account the 3" mud shower pan so the shower head may be only 5 or 6 inches above my head (I'm 5' 10"). My fall back plan would be to take it to a hardware store that threads pipe and cut and re-thread it. The flange is also high quality metal and it has a integrated rubber doughnut seal that appears will work well keeping the ring in place.
