This is a wonderful, rare, Limited Edition Artesania Rinconada Plate from 1981 that I came across at a recent Estate Sale. For more than three decades (1972) Artesania Rinconada has been producing ceramic items of the finest quality in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Artesania Rinconada Plates, introduced in 1981, were designed by Jesus and Javier Carbajales to complement their animal figurines. Each plate was skillfully carved and then hand painted with enamel glazes. Each plate was made to be hung as a wall plaque or used as a contemporary table accessory. There were six designs and each was produced in the large and small sizes (Large Plates: 7 1/2 diameter, Small Plates: 6 1/2 Diameter), different color combinations and in a limited edition of 1,000 plates for each design. This is the Large Cinnamon Bear Plate and from the research I have done appears to be hard to find in this color combination. I did find it for sale on one website for $400. The plate is in excellent condition, no crazing or cracks. There is a small mark on one side, that could be a tiny chip (see picture), but I think it was probably there from the original firing. It is barely noticeable, but I wanted to point it out. This would be a great gift for anyone who collects Artesania Rinconada figurines as well as collector plates.
