Item description
Very Rare Natural Uranium Rock:
JURASSIC TODILTO LIMESTONE
Weight: 1.2 oz.
Radioactivity: 71,400. CPM (counts-per-minute)
$48.00 plus $12.80 shipping
This rare type of uranium mineral rock is unique to the
Jurassic Canyon NM uranium field! Geologists agree
that Jurassic Todilto Limestone (JTL) rocks found here
are NOT found elsewhere in the world. These rocks
were formed here, based on a uniquely special pattern
of flowing streams that supplied water to the large
AMBROSIA LAKE that attracted many dinosaurs during
the ancient Jurassic Era, 200 million to 148 million
years in the past. The Ambrosia Lake has now been dry
for many millions of years after the dino era. When
radioactive dinosaur fossils are presently found at the
canyon, they are nearly always formed from JTL rocks,
NOT from the other four uranium minerals:
Carnotite / Coffinite / Tyuyamunite / Uraninite.
This JTL rock, with its very high geiger response
of 71,200. CPM, would be priced much higher than
its price of $48.00, except that its small 1.2 oz.
weight keeps its price lower. High-response rocks
tend to have small weight, so that the internal
"nugget of uranium" in the rock is near the rock's
surface; not buried deep inside where its radiation
would be blocked by the innert rock-mass surrounding
it. During my twelve years of frequent rockhounding
at the canyon, the "hottest rock" I have ever found
gave a radiation response of 440,000. CPM; yet, that
"hot rock" weighed merely one ounce!
Among the 15 photos, you will find my two-page
scientific paper that describes JTL uranium rocks.
This JTL rock is highly radioactive, compared to other
uranium rocks. One hint of its high response rate is
the rock's yellow color on its surface. The yellow
color of uranium is from URANIUM OXIDE,
U3O8. Miners who use the "uranium fracking"
method instead of traditional underground digging,
drill narrow pipes that are filled with oxygenated
water that dissolves the uranium; the radioactive
water is then pushed upward through pipes for
further processing at large ponds at the surface.
I have seen those large ponds at a uranium mine
located at Colorado.
